David J. Nyer, LCSW, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, has practiced for over ten years in a variety of behavioral health settings, including in-patient, medical, and out-patient settings. He has been in private practice in New York City for the last five years and since recently moving to Pennsylvania, also has opened an office here.
David’s areas of specialization include working with mood and psychotic disorders, personality disorders, anxiety, depression, OCD and trauma. He also treats relationship problems. David’s approach is holistic and humanistic, accepting the individual in his or her entirety. He works to create an emotionally safe context in which individuals can be comfortable being honest and authentic. By utilizing a strengths-based perspective, clients feel valued and empowered and more in control of their life choices.
David has received training and supervision in a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic, and Spiritual Counseling.
David accepts most insurances, including Medicare, Medicaid, Aetna, Highmark, Cigna, GHI, Beacon, United/Optum (Oxford). He also accepts private paying clients and works on a sliding scale basis.
